Weekend Rewind and I’ve Decided

The weekend literally kicked my butt. I’m not sure how I was able to function on Monday but – as was evident by my lack of post – it was basically a wash. Here’s why…

image4Some pool day fun with Blondie and her hubby  on Saturday afternoon.

We brought the dogs over to have a play date with their friends Luke and Lacey and also to try to get Mila to swim around in the pool. We already know Wilson doesn’t like water, but Mila is part lab so we were hopeful that she would be a championship swimmer (like her mom…haha!).

They were worn out, but Mila loved the pool! Her fly dog training has commenced, the hubs is excited. Have you seen those dogs that jump over the lake to try to catch the toy and see how far they get?

That’s what he wants Mila to do. Craziness.

And then we had a yummy cookout to end the night.

Sunday we went to the Kid Rock concert. We had such a blast, but man, Sunday concerts make for a very difficult Monday!

Started with a little tailgate action…

Then made our way in to the amphitheater with 50,000 of our closest friends. I love Lakewood. Concerts there are what southern summers are made for.

Epic weekend.

I’ve decided to hold off on detailed posts on my runs or workouts until my actual marathon training starts in September. I think taking the pressure off of myself to publish or share my runs on a regular basis will help me enjoy the runs more. I don’t want to feel like I’m on a strict schedule yet since I don’t technically have a running schedule to follow. So before it becomes something that’s penciled in on my calendar every day, I’ll just be giving periodic updates on how my running is going. More details will come when I actually get into my training – hopefully this will keep running fun and enjoyable until then!

Thanks for understanding, but don’t worry – I’ll still be posting some other workouts and periodic updates!

My coach has me doing some exercises to strengthen my IT band.

I’ve always affectionately referred to this part of my body as my “saddle bags” but apparently they are a real muscle and have a real scientific name. You’re welcome. Here are some exercises he’s had me do.

The Clam with Leg Extension – This picture is a perfect demonstration. Except I don’t use the resistance band just yet. And Coach said to hold my supporting hand on my top hip and act like there’s a cup of coffee in there. Don’t open your legs up so much that you spill that cup of coffee because then you’r not using the right muscle. Hold for 5 seconds in each position x10 on each side. Feel the burn.

Fire Hydrant – These were pretty familiar to me already, but Coach has me do them a little differently that I was used to. Instead of doing a lot of reps extending my leg in and out, he wants me to focus on holding my leg in both positions B and C. So I’m supposed to work up to a 30-second hold in each position. Currently, I’m at 10 seconds. Hold in each position for 10 seconds, 2x on each side.

I can definitely tell that this muscle hasn’t been worked, um, ever? I’m glad it’s finally coming out of it’s shell and I’m excited to see how it helps me in my running!

Happy Tuesday!

Was your weekend epic? What did you do?

If you could go to any concert, what would it be?

Are there any muscles you’ve started working more in your exercising or running?

1/2 July Photo Dump and Two Polls

We are now halfway through the month of July so I feel the need to do a photo dump and share my month thus far. I feel it only appropriate that I annotate the pictures in the form of a tweet (140 characters or less).

image5Favorite $10 find at H&M, the most comfy sweater ever. Get it here. PS H&M has some great $10 deals right now.

image3No, it’s not an apple. It’s a white peach. Currently obsessed, I love crunchy fruit.

IMG_1016In a never-ending search for something to decorate the wall behind our headboard with. Too many Pinterest options. Help me decide:

Option 1 – Line of picture frames

Option 2 – Frame / accent collage

Option 3 – Painted accent design wall

This weekend, the hubs and I are going with a bunch of friends to the Foreigner and Kid Rock concert at Lakewood Amphitheater (I think it’s called Aaron’s Amphitheater now, but I still call it Lakewood, just go with it). This is the first concert the hubs and I have been to together – we have extremely different tastes in music, i.e. he loves Kanye West, I love Lady Antebellum. There are only a handful of artists we could see in concert together without it being absolutely torturous for one of us. Kid Rock is one of those artists (others include Fall Out Boy, Eminem, and John Legend…that’s about it). The hubs grew up in Detroit, so he was raised on Kid Rock. He is beyond excited. I’m still trying to decide on my outfit…girl problems.

This tank would be PERFECT! Too bad I didn’t find it sooner than two days before the concert, there’s no way it would get to me in time. I’m considering buying it anyway – get it at Hazel & Olive for $20!

Ok, I have another poll. I’m full of questions today. I need to sign up for another race this year. Help me pick one…

XTERRA Georgia Allatoona Creek Park 15K/5K – this is a trail run, I’ve never done a trail race before…could be fun?

Back on My Feet Meaningful Miles 4-Miler Race – it’s no secret I’m a city girl at heart. This race runs through some pretty cool parts of Downtown Atlanta and it raises money for some great organizations.

2nd Annual Red Hare Chase 5K – This is a local race around Marietta, one of my favorite areas to run. You get a souvenir glass from Red Hare brewery at the finish…enticing.

Today’s 5 miles will be done outside – wish me luck. This shirt pretty much sums up how it will go…

Which bedroom accent wall should I go with for my master bedroom?

Which race should I run this summer?

Are there any cute or funny running shirts about your city?

Some Things I Love and Weekend Fast-Forward

Today is a full rest day for me so I actually got to sleep in this morning and I don’t have to leave the house when I get home from work tonight…that doesn’t happen very often! I’ve taken the opportunity to get some blogging work done, and these guys wanted to help out!

I wanted to share a few things with you that I’m currently loving / using every single day / can’t live without. First up, my Swiffer Sweeper. I don’t know why it took me almost a year to buy one of these, but I seriously use it every single day.

image2 image3Wilson has long hair and sheds all the time, I’m talking tumbleweeds of hair. With the middle floor of our house having hardwoods, this is an essential cleaning tool for me! Here’s what it looks like before I start sweeping…

image2And here it is after…you guys, don’t judge me. I clean with this thing every day and this is still the amount of hair I pick up. It’s unreal…

image1Another current favorite item is my Crystal Light Caffeine Drink! They come in little pouches and you just dump one into your water and it’s equivalent to a cup of coffee! I love this grape flavor, it reminds me of being a kid and drinking grape kool-aid (obviously the best flavor of kool-aid)! It also comes in Strawberry.

image4I have the greatest friends because they brought these delicious little treats to my attention. Fiber One Brownie Bars. Holy yum. When you’re dying for a piece of cake or chocolate, pick up one of these guys and your sweet tooth is satisfied! And, FIBER! That’s always a plus, right?!

image1How cute is this little ring holder? I have a thing for whales, I think they are absolutely adorable. Thankfully a lot of retail stores are picking up on this fact and cute little whale knick-knacks are easier to come by these days. I love this little guy! You can find him at Francesca’s for only $10!

I’ve decided that there’s something so exciting on my calendar this weekend that I have to tell you about it today.

There will be over 50 food trucks that’ll line the sidewalks of Piedmont Park and let you sample their menu items all day!

imagesWe live out in the ‘burbs so it’s a good 40 minute drive for us to get there, but I am absolutely beyond excited to get to spend the day at the park, and of course, eating! Some particular trucks that are on my “must hit” list:

2. Tracy’s Tasties: Mini cheesecakes…’nuff said

3. King of Pops: This is an Atlanta staple. The salted caramel pop is on my list of top 5 favorite desserts of all times. Drooling.

4. Mixed Up: This one I just really like their logo and it looks like it will be a blast.  I’ll report back.

5. Tex’s Tacos: All I need in life is a good taco. Tex’s doesn’t disappoint.

Needless to say, I’m excited. Hopefully my excitement will help get me through my 6 mile run tomorrow and propel me into the weekend!

Does your city have any cool festivals you like to go to?

If you could make your own food truck, what would you want it to have as it’s feature item?

Mine would definitely be tacos. And margaritas.
